The Howell Life

OUR ADVENTURES IN HOWELL

Balloon Fest 2010
Concert at the Courthouse
From it's meek beginnings, when the Saginaw Chippewas and the Pottawattamie Indians inhabited the area pre 1834.  Howell has been a quaint town with diversified interests and a melting pot of unique people.  As you drive the winding backroads you will find plant nurseries, crafters, hidden lakes, farms and pastures where, you may see a heron, wild turkey, deer, red fox...or flock of geese just enjoying the sunshine.  Back in town there are many little shops and restaurants to enjoy along with the old train depot that is the place to visit Howell's history, basically it's our own little version of Greenfield Village in a single building.  Here in small town America, we love festivals, and Howell has many.  There is the Spring Fling in May, Balloon Fest in June, where folks from all over the country bring their hot air balloons to participate, the Melon Fest in August, (we are the Melon Capital), and a Harvest Festival in October.  We also have a Farmers Market that has in it,  best of local produce not to mention the local Artists and Crafters from the area, the Farmers Market has expanded into a year round market that is now an inside market during the winter months.  During the summer months, there is a free concert on the lawn of the courthouse every Friday night at 7...different bands every week, with different types of music...a little bit of music for everyone's taste.  Bring your chairs or blankets to sit on, or rough it on the cement wall....sit under a shade tree or on the grassy hill, sing along, hum, whistle, or just listening is permitted, and after the concert enjoy an ice cream or stop in at the local pub for a refreshing drink and late night snack.  What ever your pleasure, Howell has it all and we are going to share all the adventures that we have here in Howell.
